چکیده

Fix an ordinary abelian variety defined over a finite field. The ideal class group of its endomorphism ring acts freely on the set of isogenous varieties with same endomorphism ring, by complex multiplication. Any subgroup of the class group, and generating set thereof, induces an isogeny graph on the orbit of the variety for this subgroup. We compute (under the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis) some bounds on the norms of prime ideals generating it, such that the associated graph has good expansion properties. We use these graphs, together with a recent algorithm of Dudeanu, Jetchev and Robert for computing explicit isogenies in genus 2, to prove random selfreducibility of the discrete logarithm problem within the subclasses of principally polarizable ordinary abelian surfaces with fixed endomorphism ring. In addition, we remove the heuristics in the complexity analysis of an algorithm of Galbraith for explicitly computing isogenies between two elliptic curves in the same isogeny class, and extend it to a more general setting including genus 2.

Isogeny graphs of ordinary abelian varieties

Fix a prime number . Graphs of isogenies of degree a power of are well-understood for elliptic curves, but not for higher-dimensional abelian varieties. We study the case of absolutely simple ordinary abelian varieties over a finite field. We analyse graphs of so-called l-isogenies, resolving that, in arbitrary dimension, their structure is similar, but not identical, to the “volcanoes” occurri...

Super-Isolated Elliptic Curves and Abelian Surfaces in Cryptography

We call a simple abelian variety over Fp super-isolated if its (Fp-rational) isogeny class contains no other varieties. The motivation for considering these varieties comes from concerns about isogeny based attacks on the discrete log problem. We heuristically estimate that the number of super-isolated elliptic curves over Fp with prime order and p ≤ N , is roughly Θ̃( √ N). In contrast, we prov...

Trilinear maps for cryptography

We construct cryptographic trilinear maps that involve simple, non-ordinary abelian varieties over finite fields. In addition to the discrete logarithm problems on the abelian varieties, the cryptographic strength of the trilinear maps is based on a discrete logarithm problem on the quotient of certain modules defined through the N\'{e}ron-Severi groups. The discrete logarithm problem is reduci...

Principally Polarized Ordinary Abelian Varieties over Finite Fields

Deligne has shown that there is an equivalence from the category of ordinary abelian varieties over a finite field A: to a category of Z-modules with additional structure. We translate several geometric notions, including that of a polarization, into Deligne's category of Z-modules. We use Deligne's equivalence to characterize the finite group schemes over k that occur as kernels of polarizatio...

Index calculus for abelian varieties of small dimension and the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem

We propose an index calculus algorithm for the discrete logarithm problem on general abelian varieties of small dimension. The main difference with the previous approaches is that we do not make use of any embedding into the Jacobian of a well-suited curve. We apply this algorithm to the Weil restriction of elliptic curves and hyperelliptic curves over small degree extension fields. In particul...
